I’ve been looking into konjac manufacturing in Indonesia recently, and one thing stood out: The industry goes far beyond finished shirataki noodles.

Indonesia has developed a supply chain around locally grown porang, covering everything from raw material processing to konjac flour, glucomannan and finished konjac foods.

Here are a few manufacturers I found particularly interesting :

1. PT AMBICO — East Java

One of Indonesia’s earliest konnyaku and shirataki manufacturers. Established in 1971, the company produces both wet and dry konnyaku products, including shirataki and konnyaku rice.

2. PT Asia Prima Konjac — Madiun, East Java

Established in 2017, with its first konjac factory built in Madiun in 2018. Its operations cover porang processing into konjac chips and flour, with further development into konjac rice.

3. PT Indo Panen Sejahtera — Mojokerto, East Java

Processes locally sourced porang into konjac chips and flour, while also developing finished products such as porang rice.

4. PT Rezka Nayatama — West Lombok

A newer processing facility focusing on high-purity glucomannan flour, connecting local porang production with higher-value food ingredients.

What I find most interesting is where the industry starts. Indonesia isn’t only building a market for finished konjac foods. Much of the industry begins upstream :

Porang – chips - konjac flour / glucomannan - finished konjac products.

And East Java appears to be one of the key centers connecting these stages.

For anyone following the konjac industry in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is definitely a market worth watching. (*)
